Changing for the Better is the campaign that has been set up by Ysgol Crug Glas in order to raise funds to modernise and develop the Swimming Pool changing facilities at the school. The current changing rooms are dated, small, cramped and under-equipped to support the children that attend and need major investment to improve these. There is a special girl (Kirsty Pitson) who has Cerebral Palsy and attends the school and that is why this race has been set up to help raise money for her and her friends.

Project Aims:

  • The new changing facilities will be much larger than the current ones, giving more freedom and space especially for the children who need wheelchairs.

  • There will be new Ceiling-Mounted hoists to maximise space and fully support health & safety.

  • There will be a dedicated wheelchair storage bay area so that the wheelchairs are not blocking other peoples path or in the way.

  • There will also be a public entrance created to improve the security and safety of the pupils.

  • It will be much more colourful, attractive and modern which will bring out the best in the children.

Project Summary:

These new changing facilities dont come cheap and are going to cost approx. £450,000 to build. So far the school has raised almost £190,000 and are constantly looking for ways to generate most donations. The new facilities will benefit over 150 Children & Adults with disabilities as well as their families and carers.

Hopefully the money raised from this event and the others being organised can be a contribution towards making a better life for those using the swimming pool.
